How Do I...?

Do I have to use the default font colors in Outlook Express? Answer: You can change the default colors to any color imaginable by right clicking in the body of your e-mail and clicking on "Font" then when the box pops up click on the "A". Here you will find a rainbow of colors and a custom color bar for making just the right color for any background...

A note from Kellie on moving selections: Just wanted to share something I learned in another group. This is something I didn't know you could do. LOL Some of you probably already know it. If you have an item selected and you want to move it keep it selected and click on the mover tool then right click and hold down and you can move it where ever you want. Just tried it. Much easier!!! LOL I love this program. Always more to learn!

A note from Kelly on animation shop: #1. Open animation shop...go to FILE/PREFERENCES/GENERAL PROGRAM PREFERENCES and click the LAYERED FILES tab. Click Merge Layers into Single Frame....close animation shop and reopen it. This is a neat feature allowing you to save layered psp files without having to merge them to use in animation shop! Really helpful in case you need to change something on a layer. Prevents you from having to redo the whole image. #2. Here's an animation tip....open the animation in animation shop....click on the last frame, right click and choose frame properties....set the number higher so that the last frame is displayed longer.

Another tip from Kellie: Okay here is one I recently learned. Boy did I feel stupid!!!!! LOL If you are using the paint brush and trying to draw something (you know how you always get that ugly look) globby in some places thin in others. If you paint one pixel and hold the shift key, just move to the next spot and left click. Wala it makes a line for you. Boy did this make drawing a ton easier with the brush!!!!! Very useful for tiny images you don't want to antialias but gives you a cleaner line. I felt like I had been left out of a giant secret. ROFL This works with the eraser also.

And here is a great tip from Wendy: One thing that I think is important that a lot of people don't use. When working with a lot of layers and you want to merge a few only. Close the layers you want to merge. Then right click on one of the open layers and choose View/Invert. This closes all the others layers and opens the ones you want to merge. You then click on one of those layers and Right click and choose Merge/Visible. When Merged you can right click on any layer and go to View/All and all layers will be opened back up. Really is a time saver when there is a lot of layers. I use it even if there a a few layers.

I read up above about Selections. What are they and how do you use them? Here are several great places to learn about them: Selection's From B/W Clipart at Barbara'a Place...

Retouch Tool Tip: When working on a layer and you are using the Retouch tool Lock the transparency on that layer. You can do anything on that layer and it will not go out of the shape on that layer. You do not need to select it. Works for applying a cutout on that layer also with out selecting and floating. Remeber to unlock it after you are done if you want to add other effects on that layer.

How do I Clear Cache? Answer: For IE: Go to Tools Internet Options In the pop up window Under the General Tab Hit the delete Cookies button and the Delete Files Button. Wait until it stops might take a while. Netscape: Go to Edit Prefrences Click on Advanced Click on Cashe Click the Clear Memory Cashe Clear Disc Cashe Wait until it clears It's really a good idea to do this at least once a month. I also clear History while I'm doing it. Under the same options. Just clears things out

What is a PSD File? Answer: A PSD file is a graphic made from Adobe Photo Shop. Its the same as A PSP file. Just made with a different program. Can be used in PSP as long as you have your file preferences set to use it.

Note: to use a font in PSP you don't have to install it. Just double click on the font file and the font will open in font preview. Minimize it then open PSP , the font will now be an option for text. Installing a ton of fonts can really eat your resources.

Instead of trying to get that circle selection for the cutout where you want it there is an easier way. Make your ellipse or circle with the size you want it. Then click on the move tool. Right click and hold you can just drag the marching ants and it won't move the image underneath.

How Do I colorize a picture when the magic wand isn't useful? Answer: From Barbara: you can select the area out with the lassoo tool,if you need more than one area in that colour you can hold down the shift key while selecting the areas to be of one colour to select more than one area at a time, then once you have all your selections you can floodfill them with the paint bucket, I lower my opacity on the paint bucket to about 40 but it's good to play with it for the look and feel that you want, you can also fill the areas using the paint brush for a watercolour or oil painting look.
From Kellcat: You can also colorize by using the retouch tool set to color to target. Then just select your foreground color to the color you want to use. Set your brush settings and your ready to go. That's how I colorized mine. No selecting areas.

Here's a great tut for colorizing. Colorize Tut

How do I use a Selection tut in PSP7 that was done in PSP8? Answer: In order for a person to be able to do a Selection tut in PSP 7 that was made in PSP 8. The Selections MUST be saved in the Alpha Channels. When you save the Alpha Channel Image you then must do a SAVE AS. Click on the Options button and click the radio button for PSP 7 Compatible. Then both PSP 8 and 7 will beable to access the file. This is due to the new extensions that PSP 8 makes. PSP 8: .PSPSelections files will not load in any version but 8. Thats why they need to be loaded into the Alpha Channels.
